I just want to share a few thoughts and images with you around one of the most beautiful animals in the world:
Sadly orangutans are losing their homes and it is predicted that this beautiful species that has 98% the same DNA as humans will be extinct by 2018 - just 2 years away!
They will become extinct due to deforestation of their forest land in Sumatra and Borneo, whilst the world continues to demand palm oil in over 50% of supermarket products.
If you would like to make a small change and help this wonderful species to survive all it takes is for you to look closely at your food packaging and ensure it does not contain one of the following ingredients:
Vegetable Oil, Vegetable Fat, Palm Kernel, Palm Kernel Oil, Palm Fruit Oil, Palmate, Palmitate, Palmolein, Glyceryl, Stearate, Stearic Acid, Elaeis Guineensis, Palmitic Acid, Palm Stearine, Palmitoyl Oxostearamide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-3, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Kernelate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Lauryl Lactylate/Sulphate, Hyrated Palm Glycerides, Etyl Palmitate, Octyl Palmitate, Palmityl Alcohol.
These products are simply palm oil in disguise.
It is possible to purchase products that contain sustainable palm oil - what a great choice to make. If a product contains sustainable palm oil it will say so on the packaging.
Below is the website for the WWF that contains further information about which products contain palm oil and how we recognise those products that are using sustainable palm oil.
This link is a rather 'in your face' clip about deforestation in Indonesia.
