Wherever You Go You are There

I can hear you all now, “You teachers are always on holidays”. If this is your take and don’t approve of teacher/school/student holidays then I say to you, go to Uni for four years, start a career on minimum wage, wipe noses, tie peed on shoelaces, love every child in your care equally and teach the curriculum, oh and whilst you’re there, you have to teach the darlings to make their own breakfast as this now appears to be the job of the school rather than the parent or caregiver!!!
I love my holidays and you can too – just do the above.
Holidays to me are a time to relax, recharge, travel, visit people and places. These holidays see our little family staying put, which is fine, it will be our first Christmas in our own house for many years. We are celebrating the day with another orphan family, and although I was apprehensive about not spending Christmas with my extended family, I am actually starting to look forward to staying home this year.
I have spent 10 days straight moving into our house, now don’t get me wrong we moved into our current home well over two years ago, but it is only now that I have finally got things where I want them and where I am happy they will stay. In the excitement of moving in (over two years ago) things just got dumped and then we learnt to live with them and they became less and less obvious.
I have moved furniture, I have steam cleaned, I have raked, I have exit moulded, I have frequented the tip, I have stuffed rubbish and recycling into my neighbours bins, I have hammered and I have super glued; I have cleansed and it is lovely. As I look around I think that my brother may almost be proud of my efforts – he is a high end stylist in Melbourne and our tastes vary greatly. It doesn’t matter anyway, because I am proud of my efforts, my house is warm and welcoming, yet functional, tidy (for the minute) and organised.
If anyone else out there has a spare 10 days I can highly recommend this intense form of cleansing; it is purely cathartic.
Happy Holidays.
